The CDC is changing rules for dogs entering the US. They require each dog to have a rabies vaccination as well as an ISO compatible microchip, and they have to be given at the same time. Many of our patients have not had a microchip but have had rabies vaccinations. When we place a microchip, the dog will have to get a new rabies vaccine, even if they are up to date. We do not want the microchip number showing up on the previous rabies certificates.
Or clinic is one of very few in the area and many of our patients either cross the border regularly or they live in Canada. We print older rabies certificates at least a few times a week because previously that was all that was required for border crossing.
